The inaugural Pelagian Opera Festival lands this summer, in the unmatched surroundings of The Salutation Gardens, Sandwich. As if by Magic is the theme, summoning within our walls all sorts of strange enchantments, mystical happenings and things wondrous to behold.

Presented in the afternoons, a new staging of The Magic Flute will be directed by Catrin Wyn Davies and will include an international cast of singers from The Royal Conservatoire Den Haag making their festival debut, costumes by Dorothy Fothergill and scenography by Simon Costin.Die Kleine Zauberflöte will weave its spells around festival-goers as they picnic, providing each guest with a unique experience as they follow the action through the labyrinthine grounds, or wait for The Queen of The Night to appear before them…

In the evenings, the Festival will focus on Opera Cabaret, continuing in magical and otherworldly themes. We ask you to expect the unexpected, with liberties to be taken with much-loved pieces, and singers primed to go off piste when the spirits seize them. The performances, staged outdoors in the mid-summer dusk, will be accompanied by a suitably magical dining experience delivered by The Salutation’s award-winning kitchen team. The aromas of such delicacies will mingle with the arias in the air…

The talented team behind the Pelagian Festival will stop at nothing to make it a fabulous event, and a centrepiece of the cultural landscape for many years to come. Join them as they begin their most sonorous journey this summer, and upon your chequered blankets and at your tables drink with us a long toast to your wisdom and their great success.
