With a fantastic restaurant on site, as well as our lovely cafe and plant nursery, and easy access for coaches, we can make a great place to visit for larger groups. Visit us as your sole destination or use us as a base to explore the glorious medieval town of Sandwich, right on our doorstep.

National Collections

The Salutation Gardens are home to 2 officially recognised national collections (and who knows, a third may be on the horizon). With over a hundred named varieties, we are the proud holders of the largest private collection of dark-leafed dahlias in the UK. We have an active breeding programme, working in the hope of finding something new and special that we can introduce into cultivation.

Alongside these gorgeous and generous plants, which vary hugely in form, colour and height, we also hold the national collection of Plectranthus. Related to salvias, these little know plants (outside of botanical collections) are drought and shade tolerant, and cope well with poor soils. They come in every size imaginable from ground cover to large shrubs and are predominantly foliage plants with gorgeous flowers right at the end of the summer and into the autumn.

Now a firm favourite of our Head Gardener, we were lucky enough to be gifted a large portion of our current collection.

Dark Leaved Dahlia at The Salutation

Since January 2019 we have been one of the RHS's Partner Gardens. This scheme selects exceptional gardens in the UK and hopes to offer inspiration to keen gardens through a variety of garden types and planting styles.

RHS members can gain free entry on Mondays throughout the year, and are also for a discounted price for our annual membership, paying £15 (instead of our normal £18).

Plectranthus at The Salutation

In recent years, we've stretched our legs and tried to make it to a number of shows and plant fairs around the country to share what we're doing. As well as RHS shows such as Chelsea and Royal Hampton Court, we can also be found at a number of independent fairs throughout the year, as well as our own plant fair in October!
