“Is this the finest place to stay in England?” – the FT
Welcome to The Salutation, the finest place to stay in Kent.
Located in the heart of beautiful historic Sandwich, this stunning building was built between 1911-1912 as a weekend retreat for William, Gaspard and Henry Farrer.
A fantastic retreat it remains. We offer outstanding comfort and luxury but leave stuffiness and pretention at the door. The Salutation is known for its wonderfully warm, inclusive and friendly atmosphere that accommodates everyone from those looking for a quiet getaway, to those wishing for a sociable stay where they can expect to meet new friends for life among the hosts and fellow guests.
Our accommodation is set across 17 fabulous bedrooms in the luxurious manor house and in three bespoke and self-contained properties: Knightrider House, Gardener’s Cottage and The Coach House.
Every bedroom is furnished with duck down pillows and duvets as well as sumptuous Egyptian cotton sheets for a guaranteed relaxing night’s stay (non-feather bedding is available on request). Many of the rooms also overlook the famous 3-and-a-half acre gardens.
Meanwhile, the beautiful and charming self-contained cottages are ideal for a private and relaxing getaway. All feature a fully fitted kitchen, spacious living and dining areas, and luxurious bedrooms.
The historical nature of The Salutation and its properties, along with our Grade 1 status, means that all of our beautiful properties have the odd quirk here and there, be it original sloping floorboards or narrow staircases. All of our bedrooms are located on the first or second floors of our properties, and are without lift access. Please bear this in mind when booking your visit.
